Minister questioned on policy landscape for small-scale renewables

Rachel Reeves

Commons Select BEIS Committee Chair Rachel Reeves has written a letter to interim Minister for Energy and Clean Growth Chris Skidmore over “concerns” around the policy landscape for the small-scale renewables industry, including solar. In the 4 June letter Reeves said the Committee is concerned that “consumers who installed these technologies after the export tariff closed continue to be the only generators not paid for the power they feed into the electricity network”. She also said that a proposed change to the way in which the reduced rate of VAT is applied to solar and other household renewables “poses a threat to the most cost-effective collective purchase schemes; premium schemes such as those combined with complex ‘smart’ technologies; and installations of solar and battery storage”.
